Island Crisis Care Society is a registered non-profit society that helps people in crisis stabilize and then find the support, resources, and services they need to recover and be well. Working in cooperation with provincial and federal agencies, community groups, and faith-based organizations, ICCS develops housing options and programs that respect the needs of individuals with multiple challenges or concurrent disorders.
More Room for Hope is a $2 million expansion campaign that has been created to draw attention to the critical issues of women experiencing homelessness in Nanaimo. Funds will be used to renovate the current Samaritan House on Nicol Street and expand the facility onto the empty lot we purchased beside the existing house.
With the expansion, Samaritan House, with its three stories, will more than double its current capacity. That means an increase in shelter and supported units, a reduction in over-crowding, and more meeting space to allow health and support workers to work privately with clients. The goal is to also provide emergency shelter for women and their children who are experiencing homelessness.
